SPANNER was inspired by Shawn Wilson, an industrial systems engineer working as a maintenance manager. After years of leading maintenance teams and navigating production pressures, equipment downtime, and fragmented, slow-moving information, he kept running into the same problem: plants relied on a patchwork of spreadsheets, paper records, and disconnected software that rarely communicated — eroding efficiency and breaking down the flow of information between departments. Rather than force manufacturing processes to fit off-the-shelf tools, he set out to build software around the way plants actually work. That decision became SPANNER.

He holds a BEng in Industrial Systems from Caribbean Maritime University.

Sammarieo Brown is the lead software engineer who brought SPANNER to life — translating Shawn’s operational vision into a secure, scalable cloud application, and building the real-time, multi-tenant system that now runs entire plants from a single login.

Beyond SPANNER, he is a software engineer, data scientist, and founder working at the intersection of financial services and artificial intelligence. He currently leads data science at one of the Caribbean’s largest financial groups, where he builds credit risk scorecards, customer risk scoring systems, and AI-driven decisioning tools deployed across the business.

Over his career he has partnered with banks and financial institutions to design and deploy machine learning systems in credit risk, fraud, and customer intelligence. He is also the founder of Calibr, a no-code credit risk modeling platform serving digital lenders in emerging markets, and has shipped several AI and commerce products through his own ventures.

He holds a BSc in Computer Science and Statistics and an MSc in Applied Data Science from the University of the West Indies, Mona, and is based in Kingston, Jamaica.
